Weeds

KNOW YOUR WEEDS BEFORE THEY...

  • Choke out desirable forage for livestock and wildlife
  • Reduce the productivity of your pasture
  • Poison your animals
  • Spread RAPIDLY!

Weeds in small pastures can significantly reduce available forage. Most weed problems can be prevented with good grazing, fertilization and irrigation practices, but continually watch for new weed invasions. Among the most common broad-leaf weeds in pastures are burdock, cocklebur, whitetop, curly dock, teasel and thistles. Foxtail barley is one of the most troublesome grassy weeds. Weed identification is the first step toward and effective control program.
